Puerto Rico travel diary: Land of the Iguana

Iguanas are native to Central and South America, but were introduced to Puerto Rico in the 1970s through pet trade. They’ve been having a great time in the wild since with no natural predator, no enemy to hunt them - With over 10 million iguanas on the island now they are outnumbering the location population (3.2 million), and doubling pretty much every year.

Wherever you go in Puerto Rico, you run into iguanas policing the pools, the beach, the bushes. With their Jurassic-alike attitude I personally think they are super cool, but appreciate they are causing a full-blown pest issue on the island.
